Land Body Minds Meeting

Guest speakers: LION (Land In Our Names), Earth Tenders, misery medicine and Bodyminds study group

Thursday 11 September, 10.15am – 3.30pm (see timings below)

Phytology, Bethnal Green Nature Reserve, Middleton St., London E2 9RR

Land-Body-Minds Meeting brings together three London-based grassroots collectives run by Black and People of Colour, LION (Land In Our Names), Earth Tenders and misery medicine, with an aim to share learnings and grow solidarity between three distinct but allied contributions to the land, health and racial justice movement.

Our open air venue, Phytology medicinal garden, is an ‘urban physic garden’ set within Bethnal Green Nature Reserve.

After a sharing session chaired by Technē researcher and artist Shama Khanna and a shared meal, there will be the option of reflecting on our learnings through creative writing, drawing and collage making with writer and researcher Sonji Shah, who is also part of misery, before drawing the event to a close.

Bodyminds study group is a creative exploration of theory by researchers, artists and writers Shama Khanna and Sonji Shah.

‘Land-Body-Minds Meeting’ is explicitly aimed at centering Black and People of Colour (BPOC) participants and experience, but all are welcome.

‘Land-Body-Minds Meeting’ is supported by Technē and convened by Shama Khanna with support from Carmem Saito and Tom Railton.

There is a shelter from wind and rain, but come dressed with layers and waterproofs for early autumn weather.

“whilst we do not mandate mask-wearing, we encourage folks to COVID test [..] and mask if they are able to. we ask folk to cancel their ticket if they become unwell, have flu symptoms or any other contagious illness. this is to protect our disabled/chronically ill facilitators and vulnerable members of our community <3

the site is technically wheelchair accessible, but has wood-chipped paths which can become uneven and a ramp to the compost toilet. we therefore ask, if you are a wheelchair user, to please notify Tom by email K2302475@kingston.ac.uk in advance, so that the site can prepare for your arrival. we make sure that there are options for seating: chairs with back support, fabrics on the floor to lie down, benches and stools.

If you have a question or need, specifically relating to access, please email Tom at K2302475@kingston.ac.uk.”
